Monday Morning Music # 99 – J.J. Cale

We lost J.J. Cale a decade ago on July 26th, 2013. He kept a pretty low profile in the music business, making his money through royalties from industry royalty like Eric Clapton and Lynard Skynard. It was the way J.J. liked it and it gave him the freedom to do things the way he wanted. He always ran the opposite direction of fame and fortune, preferring solitude.

I saw him live at Red Rocks on July 7th, 1979 at pretty much the pinnacle of his arc in the music industry. He opened for Commander Cody and John Prine. Interestingly all three of them have left the physical plane – Makes me feel old. Here’s a set of tunes that showcase J.J.’s incredible songwriting prowess. Enjoy!
