Dirt Diary #9

Another wonderful mid-winter day down on Galveston Bay. It looks like it’s going to be around 70 degrees again today, the perfect temperature for a walk.

A morning walk, out in the bright sunshine has been the high point of our day for a few weeks now. We need to plan it around the rain showers and dodge a few mud puddles but it’s pretty sweet to be “out there” enjoying the coastal vibe.

It’s like there’s some special scent in the air when I’m close to the ocean that sends little happiness tingles all through my body.

While enjoying some Rio Red Grapefruit juice this morning, from the orchards of south Texas, we scanned the news and it looks like back home in Colorado, they’re getting dumped on, (we say back home in Colorado but we’ve spent as much or more time in Texas over the years and still live in both places). Snow totals of a foot or more in numerous locations. I remember back when I was young, we used to look forward to snow days like that. We’d grab the ski gear and head for the mountains to thrash in the fresh powder.

I gave up skiing a few decades ago and I’m still happy with that decision. Big snow in the mountains still gets me excited but it’s more about a good snow pack to keep the rivers flowing strong for the rest of the year.

Trout streams have a similar effect on me as the ocean. Something unique and special happens that sends happiness tingles throughout my entire body.

Oceans and trout streams have exceptional energy. When the sun reflects across their surface, it’s like a million diamonds, flashing joyful rainbows. Treasures that are worth far more than anything you can buy. The best way to experience either, is to slow down and walk next to them, the negative ions producing tingly joy from head to toe.

Dirt Diary is a chronicle of time spent “out there” in nature. Words and pictures both work well to express the joy we find in nature. If you enjoy pictures, check out our SmugMug gallery… Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay.
