M.M.M. #70 – Bonnie & Lowell

Bonnie Raitt & Lowell George
WLIR - Ultrasonic Studios
Long Island, NY 1972

with Freebo and John Hammond

Back in the 70’s there was no iTunes, Amazon Music or streaming podcasts. When we went looking for new music to listen to, it was FM Radio that streamed the latest and greatest – out over the air waves. I don’t necessarily pine for those days, it’s just the way it was. I much prefer being able to give Siri a directive and have whoever I want, whenever I want, streaming into the ear buds. I love the WWW.

Here’s a vintage FM broadcast, (well, it’s 50 years ago, is that vintage?) from WLIR in Long Island featuring Bonnie Raitt, Lowell George, Bonnie’s bassist Freebo and legendary bluesman John Hammond. A truly timeless performance of American Roots music that still has the power to send a chill up your spine, fifty years after it was recorded. That’s one of the cool things about live music, sometimes the stars align and you get a show like this one. Enjoy!
